Happy Valentine's Day!!  This week we were able to write our Pen Pals letters and send them Valentine Cards along with a Skittle treat!  We had a Valentine Celebration during lunch.

Our Famous African Americans that we studied this week are Ruby Bridges and Rosa Parks.

This famous picture from Norman Rockwell portrays Ruby being escorted to school by US Marshals.
Ruby was one of the first to attend an all white school in 1960.

Rosa parks refused to give up her seat on a bus and was arrested.

We also talked about Brown vs. the Board of Education.  The court case led to the school desegregation.

The 2nd Graders helped Mr. Gast with Chapel this week.  Here are a few pictures from that:

Mother Nature seems to be out of whack.....which in turn has many students out of whack!  She can't decide if it is winter, spring or even summer....considering some of the temperatures!  We are very tired of the rain!

It has been a busy week in 2nd grade.  We finished our unit on addition and subtraction with and without regrouping.  We need to revisit it though, since many struggled with the test.  We will retest one day next week.  Out next chapter is Geometry.  Using the solid figures and such is always a fun chapter.

This week we talked about Dr. Charles Drew and finished talking about Harriet Tubman.

We learned about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad and how she helped over 700 people escape to freedom!

In Chapel this week we recognized the trait of Knowledge.  Our recipient was Ben Brennan.

Congratulations, Ben!!

This week we also celebrated 100 days of school !
